Freshwater bodies, and especially the ponds and lakes in the Northeast, are in trouble. People live in close proximity to many water bodies, and the groundwater nutrients can cause vegetation to grow rapidly. We need to make sure that we notice conditions that affect the pond life, and take action so that the fish can spawn and the water conditions will be healthy, and the ponds will be there for future generations, along with the turtles and other creatures who live in and around our beautiful water bodies.

Gallo has a love for the outdoors and preservation of the environment. Evidence of this passion is projected in her illustrations and photography.
Alice has worked in banking, real estate, administration, editing, and grant-writing, and she co-owned a meat and fish market in a small Vermont town for 10 years, where she and her husband made good friends when their children were young. Her best days and years were spent with her kids. She graduated from Wellesley College while in her 40’s, and in later years, she cared for a senior mother for over 10 years.
Alice spent each summer on Cape Cod during the happiest days of her own childhood. The village of Craigville is a special and unique place, and she watched the turtles from a rowboat on Lake Elizabeth that inspired her to write turtle stories. She is concerned about the ponds' - and the environment's - future health. The Red Lily Ponds and Craigville Beach are in her soul. Both her children are engaged with Craigville’s life and future which is very gratifying.
She and her husband enjoy a great community in Tucson now, where she does proofreading. She loves spending summers with her wonderful children and grandchildren on Cape Cod. And she likes writing about a certain turtle and his special world.
